Incense is made of fragrant parts of plants such as the leaves of fern or juniper, herbs and sandalwood. An offering of incense is an offering of fragrance, or pleasant smells.
By lighting incense, we perfume and clear the air. So by offering incense, we create the cause to always experience pleasant smells and never to be reborn in unpleasant places. We also create the cause to keep pure moral discipline and attain pure concentration.
Kids, as lighting incense involves open flames, never try this yourself. We don’t want you to burn the whole house down!
Always ask your parents or other adults to light it for you or at least if you have learnt to light it, do it while they are watching you. Remember to keep it at a safe place with no paper or curtains flying around nearby.
